I’m about to finish a video piece I’ve been working on. I used to work with video editing, but it’s the first time I do anything like this and it’s getting me pretty excited. Hoping to share some more of it soon. Here are some stills from it for now.

M.I.A.’s new video is nothing short of amazing. It’s kinda like a blinged out Wes Anderson tale, Kuwait style. Amazing.

Here’s another excerpt from the rehearsals for the premiere last week. This is from the slow 2nd movement.

My Fictitious Record

(don’t worry, there’s still a very real record in the making)

I had an idea once. I thought, what if I instead of making a full album, I pretend there’s an album and just make the teasers for each song instead? Easy. So that’s what I did. Naturally, I thought it would be a relatively quick project, but it’s been years in the making. Life happens, right? So. I am very excited that it’s finally time to launch this project - or to release it rather - the fifteen second teasers for my fictitious album, XV.

But there’s more. Once I had made the songs, or the random excerpts thereof if you will, I got another idea. What if I get directors and artists to make videos for each song? Not quite as easy, but sure. So that’s what I did. I spent a while researching and digging on the world wide web in addition to talking to my friends about the project. In the end, I had 12 really talented directors, artists and art directors from three continents making 15-second videos for each of the songs.

So for the next 12 days, I will be releasing one song accompanied by its video here on heartfelt.no. I think you’ll want to check back for this at 6 pm GMT+1, starting tomorrow and for the next 12 days.

Stills from four of the videos:

Before I go

Saving, backing up, turning off the lights. Listening to Interleave one more time. I’m calling it a day and I’m taking off for Istanbul for a week. It’s gonna be good to take a break from the studio and come back with a clear mind and fresh ears. Deadlines are looming, which is good. I’m leaving you with a video/song that’s been on heavy rotation here. Enjoy.

I’ve started on the arrangements for the 8-10 musicians that I’m recording with the next month or so. It’s a bit of a transition to go from playing and recording to nitpicking and figuring out each note and little detail so that it’ll come across just right.

Kristoffer Borgli, who’d previously made videos for Casiokids and Serena Maneesh directed this video for my song Wander last summer.
